AHC & EHC explained
Since January 2021, Pet Passports from Great Britain are no longer accepted for EU travel with your pets.
An Animal Health Certificate (AHC), is typically used for pet travel from the UK to EU countries and the Export Health Certificate (EHC), is for pet travel to non-EU countries.
They are issued by an Official Veterinarian (OV), and must be obtained within 10 days of your departure and they are solely for dogs, cats, and ferrets. You can include up to 5 pets on a single AHC, but they must be travelling for non-commercial purposes.
What are the requirements for an AHC?
+
Your pet must have a registered microchip.
+
If your pet is travelling with a friend or family member then you will need to provide the vet issuing the AHC with a written declaration that you are happy for the named person to travel with your pet. It is compulsory that you will be reunited with your pet within 5 days of their departure date, and the named person travelling with your pet must carry documentation that proves this.
+
Your pet MUST be vaccinated against rabies. This must have been administered AT LEAST 21 days before the AHC is issued.
+
Proof of rabies vaccination: This can be in the form of a vaccination card, a vaccination certificate, an old pet passport or history from your vets. Let us know if you are not sure whether your pet's rabies vaccination is still in date.
+
Evidence that the pet's microchip was scanned prior to the administration of the rabies vaccine. This is detailed on your rabies vaccine document. If this is not included you will need to contact the vet who provided the vaccine.
+
Tapeworm treatment: For most EU countries, a veterinarian must administer this treatment and stamp the paperwork 24–120 hours before arriving back in the UK. For travel to Ireland, Malta, Norway, Finland, and Northern Ireland, the treatment must be administered 24–120 hours prior to departure.

Important information for Pets Travelling to Australia
OV66 ID Checks & RNATT Declarations
+
Pets travelling to Australia must undergo strict biosecurity tests and need to be quarantined for period upon arrival.
+
During this process, before some of the tests, they also need to be identified following a specific protocol. In order to be allowed to carry those procedures, vets must have a special authorisation called OV66 Authorisation. The new OV66 export process reduces the Australian post-entry quarantine time from 30 days to 10 days.
+
For a pet to qualify for the 10-day quarantine in Australia, at least two OV66 veterinarians must be involved in the export process. Two separate OV66 identification verifications must be conducted between 180 and 365 days prior to the pet's arrival in Australia, performed by two different OV66 vets from separate practices.
+
The rabies blood sample must be collected by one OV66 vet, and the test results must be confirmed by an independent OV66 vet who completes an "RNATT declaration" to be submitted to the Australian authorities. The final export certificate, typically prepared at the airport just before departure, must also be completed by an OV66 vet.
+
Evidence that the pet's microchip was scanned prior to the administration of the rabies vaccine. This is detailed on your rabies vaccine document. If this is not included you will need to contact the vet who provided the vaccine.
+
We provide an independent Official Veterinarian service, and so we are able to carry out OV66 ID verifications in addition to the RNATT declaration, in addition to our rabies vaccinations and RNATT blood tests services.
