Here at Paws in the City – Ealing, we offer complete vaccinations services to take your pets from puppies and kittens to happy and healthy dogs and cats, and continue to support their immune system through annual vaccination boosters. There’s no legal requirement on dog vaccinations in the UK. However, our vets recommend core vaccines as essential for every dog to keep them safe and healthy. The exception to this is the rabies vaccine, which is a legal requirement if your dog is travelling in and out of the UK.

FAQs
1. Why do I need to vaccinate my pet?
It is extremely important to provide your pet with all their up-to-date vaccinations, as the vaccinations will provide your kitten and puppy with the protection that they need to grow into a happy and healthy cat and dog.
Vaccinations can help to give you peace of mind that you have given your pets the greatest chance at living a happy life with optimum health. By vaccinating your pet, you are protecting them and boosting their immunity against several common disease that can be life threatening. You are also reducing the likelihood that they will need further veterinary care.
2. When do I need to vaccinate my pet?
Dogs, cats and rabbits have different requirements when it comes to their vaccination courses.
Vaccinations for dogs tend to consist of 2 injections over a 2-4 week period, with their first injection at 8 weeks old, followed by their second injection at 10 weeks old. A few weeks after they have received their puppy vaccinations, they will be fully protected and should be kept inside your home and away from other animals (that don’t live in your house). Your dog will then need to get their annual dog vaccines to maintain the protection they received from their puppy jabs.
Kitten vaccinations tend to consist of 2-3 injections, with their first being administered at 9 weeks old, followed by their second at 12 weeks old, and on occasion a third vaccine is required at 15 weeks old. It will take approximately one month after the final injection for your kitten to be fully protected. Cat vaccinations will then be needed yearly, in the form of a booster injection, to maintain their protection.
Rabbit vaccinations can be given from 5 weeks old. They will then require 2 or more injections.

IVDD is a condition that can affect the cushioning discs between the bones in the spine, causing pressure on the spinal cord and may cause mobility issues. Some breeds such as French Bulldog, Dachshund, Pekingese, Beagle, Cocker Spaniel (amongst others) are at an increased risk for IVDD. Up to 24% of dachshunds suffer with this disease!
Please speak to one of our vets if your dog is showing signs of decreased mobility or pain in their back when moving.

It is important to teach your children how to be safe around animals. Even your family pet that you feel you know through and through can suddenly become unpredictable.
Remember most importantly - Supervise or Separate!
If you can't be there to keep an eye on the interaction, then you should not leave the children and animals alone together, keep them apart!
