Dog Neutering

Dog castration is neutering a male dog and may help decrease unwanted behaviours such as scent marking, aggression and competing with other unneutered dogs. Castration in dogs can therefore help with training as they will be less distracted.

In female dogs it’s called spaying. Spaying a dog helps to remove the health risks posed by pregnancy and giving birth and prevents unwanted pregnancies.

Neutering Cats

A Neutered cat is generally much better behaved as they are less likely to roam, bite, mark their territory or show aggressive behaviour.
Spaying a female cat before their first heat helps to prevent certain infections and cancers.
In males cats it removes the chance of testicular cancer and lowers the risk of prostate problems.

Paws in the City are here to make the process as painless and comfortable for your pet as possible.

Why should you spay/neuter your pet?

FEMALE DOGS

Medical Benefits

Living a longer, happier life as by spaying your pet you can prevent infections in their uterus and decreases the chance of breast tumours.

Behavioural Benefits

Won’t go into heat, meaning no unwanted pregnancies, no yowling for a mate or scent marking.

Financial Benefits

The cost of spaying your pet is far lower than the cost of having and providing care for a litter of puppies/kittens.

MALE DOGS

Medical Benefits

A lower risk of testicular cancer and prostate problems.

Behavioural Benefits

  1. Less likely to go missing and get injured as they tend to wander to find a mate when intact.
  2. Unlikely to mark their territory by scent marking.

3. Less likely to mount other dogs/people/objects.
4. may help to avoid aggression problems by reducing the amount of testosterone in their system (but is not a guarantee for improved behaviour!).
